Torishiro Island—a small island blessed with abundant nature. High school student Takahara Hairi has been invited by his aunt, Misaki Kyoko, to spend summer vacation helping sort through his late grandmother's belongings. " I'm nothing more than a wounded migratory bird," he muses.

On Torishiro Island, it is customary to call visitors from outside "migratory folks" and welcome them warmly. The members of the Torishiro Island youth group—Ryouichi, who loves taking his shirt off; Miki, who targets improperly shirtless individuals with a large water gun; and Tenzen, who has an unusually intense passion for table tennis—decide to throw a welcome party for Hairi.

Another ordinary day on Torishiro Island begins. After Takahara Hairi's offer to help organize the storage shed was gently declined by Misaki Kyoko, he takes his usual stroll around the island. He then encounters Kushima Kamome, a highly curious girl dragging a large suitcase.

10 years from now on, when we meet again, the secret of the island we found today will be sealed inside this box. Hairi decides to spend this summer vacation adventuring alongside Kushima Kamome. To open the treasure chest they discovered in the elementary school attic, they begin searching for four keys based on a code written in a notebook.

Guided by the map they obtained from opening the treasure box, Hairi and Kamome set off on an adventure. The mark indicated on the map is said to lead to a pirate ship that Kamome discovered 10 years ago with friends she met at summer camp. Walking along the tracks of a now-unused trolley line, Hairi and Kamome head toward the cave that leads to the place where the pirate ship was once found.

Immediately after discovering the pirate ship, Kamome vanishes before Hairi like an illusion. Seeking help from the local youth association, Hairi reenters the cave to search for her. There, he finds only Kamome's suitcase, which contains a single, old children's book named The Adventure of the Catbeard Brigade. This discovery triggers Hairi's lost memories.

A summer vacation that keeps repeating—Takahara Hairi is invited by his aunt Kyoko to help sort through his late grandmother’s belongings, and so he arrives at Torishiro Island. "Like a canary who's forgotten its song..." Through various encounters, Hairi enjoys the lively days on the island. One day, he sees Tsumugi Wenders singing at the lighthouse and speaks with her.

Shizuku wholeheartedly supports Hairi's idea of giving the rest of their summer vacation to Tsumugi. The thing Tsumugi wants to do is build a veranda for the lighthouse using empty Prangles cans. Thus, a special summer vacation begins for Hairi, Tsumugi, and Shizuku. As they spend their time together, Hairi finds himself falling in love with Tsumugi.

Tsumugi suddenly vanishes before Hairi and Shizuku’s eyes. In their search for her, the pair goes around asking the islanders about the location of the Wenders' residence. An old woman at the traditional candy store shares a story about a lighthouse keeper who once desperately searched for a blonde-haired girl.

Happy New Year, Tsumugi! During their last week with Tsumugi, Hairi proposes they celebrate an entire year's worth of events. With help from not only Shizuku but also Shiroha, Ao, their youth association, and Umi, Hairi and Tsumugi enjoy out-of-season festivities like Valentine's Day, cherry blossom viewing, the Tanabata Star Festival, Halloween, Christmas, and more.

A repeating summer vacation... Hairi comes to Torishiro Island, invited by his aunt Kyouko to help sort through his late grandmother's belongings. A welcome party is held by the youth association, and he quickly settles into island life. Among his new friends, he becomes particularly close with Sorakado Ao, a seemingly quiet but slightly lecherous girl who works part-time at the candy store.

Deep in the mountains at night, Hairi witnesses Ao collecting glowing butterflies—the iridescent shades. The next day, he asks the always-sleepy Ao about what he saw. Ao tries to play dumb, but it’s clear she’s hiding something… When Hairi presses further, she gives him a sharp warning: "Stay away from the mountain at night."

The lingering remnants of memories from people who passed away with regrets left behind—those are the iridescent shades. What Ao was searching for were the iridescent shades of her twin sister, Sorakado Ai, who has been in a coma for many years. Ao confesses her past to Hairi: how she used to feel inferior to her talented older sister, and how a rash act born from jealousy led to Ai's accident.

Ai finally awakens, leading to an emotional reunion with Ao. Everyone from the youth association comes to offer their congratulations. Relieved, Ao falls asleep... but, as if swapping places with Ai, she remains in a deep sleep, never waking. Hairi frequently visits the clinic, waiting alongside Ai for Ao to wake up. He takes over the task of collecting the iridescent shades for her...

In a repeated summer, Shiroha Naruse, who was swimming alone in the pool at night, meets Hairi Takahara, who has come to Torishiro Island to help sort through his late grandmother's belongings. Due to certain circumstances, Shiroha had kept her distance from the islanders, determined to remain a loner. Whether he was aware of this or not, Hairi persistently tried to close the distance from her.

Hairi is told by Ryouichi and Tenzen that the Naruse family is the lineage that presides over all the island's sacred rituals and festivals. It seems that because of this, Shiroha is seen in a special light by the superstitious islanders. Perhaps for that reason, Shiroha keeps her distance from others and remains isolated.

Having become drawn to each other over time, Hairi and Shiroha's feelings are finally mutual. Shiroha then confides a secret she has been hiding from Hairi. She reveals that she had a vision of the future in which she drowns during the "Summer Bird Ceremony," a traditional island ceremony. She believes she will most likely lose her life there...

Summer vacation keeps coming back― Hairi arrives on Torishiro Island to help sort through his late grandma's belongings. There, Hairi meets a little girl named Katou Umi, who is his cousin. Even though Hairi spends his fun summer vacation days meeting new people on the island, he feels uneasy and can't stop worrying about Naruse Shiroha, who purposely stays away from others.

There is something I want to do together with Mom. To grant Umi's wish, Hairi and Shiroha begin to build a pretend family relationship with her. They make a waterslide in the pool for Umi, sing songs with Tsumugi, and draw a picture book with the help of Kamome. The three of them, Hairi, Shiroha, and Umi, spend their time together happily, just like a real family.

Umi tells Hairi that she came to Torishiro Island, guided by a hidden photograph of her mother that her father possessed. It seems she fell from a cliff while chasing a Seven-Shadow Butterfly. After hearing her whole story, Hairi understands that Umi is his own child, who has come from the future. And by extension, Umi's mother, his future wife, is Shiroha.

Through the "Butterfly Vows," Hairi and Shiroha become a temporarily married couple. Then, the time finally comes for the Summer Bird Ceremony—the event Umi foresaw in a vision, where Shiroha would be struck by misfortune. With Hairi watching over her, Shiroha performs the ritual without any issues. However, she sees Umi, who had secretly climbed aboard a boat that is now being carried out to sea.

As a couple, Hairi and Shiroha are spending a blissful time, but coming across developed photographs, fried rice, and an unfamiliar paper airplane, they become seized by a feeling that something is missing. In the midst of this, the two find themselves heading toward the summer festival grounds, as if being led by something. Hairi and Shiroha gaze up at the fireworks painting the night sky.

Nanami, a girl who has lost her memories, appears on Torishiro Island as if she's from nowhere. As if guided by fate, Nanami makes her way to the Naruse household, where she meets Naruse Kobato and his granddaughter, a young girl named Shiroha. Nanami gradually grows closer to the shy Shiroha. Shiroha had lost her daddy to an accident and her mommy to an unexplained disappearance.

Nanami finally perfects "Daddy's Stir-Fried Rice." After eating it, Shiroha is delighted, exclaiming, "It tastes just like Daddy's," but... At Shiroha's request, they also have Kobato try the stir-fried rice, but its taste gives away the fact that they have been using the diner without permission. Shocked after being scolded by Kobato, Shiroha runs out of the house...
