CONNIE MORTENSEN commits a terrible, unimaginable, crime. Forensic Psychiatrist, EMMA ROBERTSON, is having a sneaky cigarette in her child's bedroom, when her husband, SI ROBERTSON, calls. She lies about her whereabouts and tells him she's been asked to take on the Mortensen case. Connie is now being held in a secure psychiatric unit awaiting trial.

Emma wakes up from a hellish nightmare in which her dead daughter, ABIGAIL ROBERTSON, is being led away by Connie. Emma tries to distract herself with work but gets drunk and falls asleep in Abigail's Wendy House. Si finds her there the next morning and tries to comfort her, awkwardly suggesting they clear out Abigail's room.

As the fire takes hold in the hospital, patients are evacuated. Connie slips away and there is a fear she may have escaped.Emma is summoned back into work from the party, where she's been enjoying Dougie's company. Emma and Connie's burgeoning connection means Emma knows exactly where to find Connie. Connie is hugely distressed because her memory has started to return.
