Scum of the Brave

Freelance Brave Yashiro, known as the Grim Reaper, rescues high school girl Jogamine, an apprentice Brave, from some local punks. Jogamine and her classmate Indo show up at the bar where Yashiro is drinking. After hearing Jogamine's story, she pleads with him to rescue a friend who was taken away by a Demon King, Lord Amberthorn.

To rescue Sarah, who has been taken hostage by the Demon King, Yashiro and Jogamine head for the HQ of Lord Amber Thorn in Shibuya. Facing wave after wave of enemies, Yashiro's mysterious ability is gradually revealed. Reaching the innermost chamber at last, Yashiro and Jogamine finally confront Lord Amber Thorn. However, an unexpected turn of events leaves Yashiro in a life-or-death crisis.

While Yashiro is engrossed in a card game at BAR Goonies, Jogamine, Indo, and Sarah suddenly barge in. On the verge of failing at the Academy, they beg Yashiro to take them on as their master and train them. Wanting nothing to do with such a hassle, Yashiro drives the three away, but Indo refuses to give up and later lies in wait for him.

At Ishinoo's request, Yashiro reluctantly agrees to escort Jogamine. They infiltrate a club in Kabukicho to receive E3 from "Peeping Tom" Matsugi, and are supposed to ask "a certain question" before leaving. But they stumble upon the men who have injected E3 trying to bring in two girls, triggering Jogamine's rampage once again!

Yashiro is asked by Sarah to supervise the community service required for her Academy credit. The service involves searching for a police dog abducted by a suspicious group. Reluctantly agreeing to help with the search, Yashiro heads with Sarah to an abandoned shopping mall. Inside the dark building, countless glowing eyes await the two.

At the Academy attended by Jogamine, Indo, and Sarah, a practical sword-fighting exam is announced. For the three of them, this exam is a crucial event that will determine whether they advance or are expelled. Yashiro commences a boot camp in the Academy building at night to coach his self-proclaimed "disciples." While engaging in fierce training, Yashiro points out each of their weaknesses.

Empowered by E3, Id unleashes an extraordinary and unsettling strength. Facing him without his prized bastard sword, Yashiro fights back using a training replica sword to execute his ultimate technique. A casual explanation of the move to Jogamine leads to the revelation of an unexpected connection between her father and Yashiro.

The Braves are shocked by Ishinoo's death. The "shattered dragon face" badge worn by Id and Levi belonged to the mysterious organization "Half-Dragon," which seeks to provoke conflict between Demon Kings. Seeking clues to the mastermind behind Ishinoo's murder, Yashiro heads to the Ministry of Demon King Disaster Countermeasures Office.

Yashiro intuits from Ishinoo's dying message that something connected to the Half-Dragon lies behind Jogamine, Indo, and Sarah. While confronting the men in black subordinates under Lord "Storm Coffin," Yashiro teaches his three disciples the fundamentals of swordsmanship. Jogamine, Indo, and Sarah each attempt to subdue the men in black, but Jogamine, who refuses to kill the enemy no matter what, finds herself struggling.

As they continue walking through the snowy mountains, a flashy neon sign for "Hot Spring of the Brave" appears before them. There, Yashiro encounters a mysterious man and is caught off guard by the man's unexpected strength.

Reunited with Maruta, Yashiro and his disciples decide to stay at the Hot Spring of the Brave. The inn's owner, known as "the Priest," seems to be a dangerous figure with more than a few quirks. Maruta proposes that they launch an attack on the castle that serves as the base of Lord Veil of the Morning Star.

A mixed force of Braves and mercenaries storms inside, each using their own abilities to search for Lord Veil of the Morning Star. In the darkness, Yashiro and Lord Veil of the Morning Star clash fiercely with their blades. Though pressed back in a guarding stance, Yashiro calmly analyzes his opponent's sword techniques and unleashes a secret move to turn the tide. The battle between Yashiro and Lord Veil of the Morning Star is finally reaching its climax!

Kiyohito Takamiya had been conducting E4 research and development for Half-Dragon. Funded by the organization, Lord Veil of the Morning Star had repeatedly carried out E4 adaptation experiments within his castle. Yashiro also uncovers the shocking truth about the incident that befell Jogamine seven years ago.

The Braves party speeds toward Goonies Bar by car, preparing for the decisive battle against Lord Storm Coffin. Seki, Tomoe, and Dorrito, members of the Half-Dragon, unleash hordes of monsters to pursue them. Yashiro decides to conserve the single remaining vial of E3 and leaves the fighting to his three disciples. Indo intercepts Doritto, who charges toward the car at overwhelming speed.

Unable to use E3 and becoming severely exhausted as he continues to flee, Yashiro escapes to a park together with Jogamine and Sarah. However, Tomoe and Seki catch up with them. They have been ordered to capture Yashiro and his companions alive. Jogamine faces off against Tomoe, while Sarah confronts Seki.

After being captured, Yashiro is confined to a hotel room. Yashiro comes to understand Lord Storm Coffin's true objective when he realizes she uses Half-Dragon, the very same group she was supposed to attack, but now she uses them to kidnap him.

Yashiro restrains Lord Wedge of Both Hands and demands to know who killed Ishinoo. Frustrated by the truth revealed by his old enemy, Yashiro attempts to kill him, but is stopped by Jogamine's unexpected action. Just then, Levi's gang bursts in, and a three-way battle begins: Indo vs. Doritto, Sarah vs. Seki, and Shirogane vs. Tomoe.

Just like Indo and Sera, Jogamine is also trying to grow through battle. Despite being battered and bruised, what path to victory does she discover? And finally, Yashiro and Levi clash! Yashiro attempts to teach his disciples the tricks of combat through real-world experience.
