Rosalie Douglas has lost her son. Her marriage is falling apart. Her teenage daughter, Maddie, has gone off the rails, wracked with grief and an as-yet-unexplained guilt over her brother's death.

Still reeling from her last encounter with Jed – still struggling to control her feelings and temper her intrusive thoughts – Rosalie arrives home to something of an ambush; Luke wants Jed to move into Rob's old bedroom while he's in Scotland, especially if Maddie might still be in danger.
