Parasyte: The Maxim

One night, without anyone realizing, the world was about to change. In a house where everyone was asleep, parasite eggs that feed on human brains and parasitize human beings fell on the ground at the door of high school student Izumi Shinichi. The parasite attacks Shinichi as he sleeps, but he resists and fails to penetrate his brain, instead taking up residence in his right arm.

As Shinichi and the parasite live together in an unwilling symbiosis, the parasite in his right arm calls itself "Migi." Shinichi hears from his friend Yuko that "mince murders" are occurring all over the world, and realizes that the parasite is involved. As Shinichi feels frustrated that he is the only one who knows about the situation, the shadow of a new parasite looms.

As the number of victims of the "Mince Murders" increases day by day, Shinichi, who knows the truth, is troubled by conflict. On his way to school, Migi suddenly tells Shinichi that his friend is nearby, and when he heads there he is shocked! It's at Nishi High, the school Shinichi attends. While Shinichi is on guard during a school assembly, a beautiful female teacher stands on the podium.

Following the incident with Murderer A, Shinichi returns to his normal life, but his energy remains low. His worried mother, Nobuko, tries to talk to Shinichi, but he tries to evade the question. When Nobuko confides in her husband Kazuyuki that Shinichi has been acting strangely, he tells her it may be due to an accident he had some time ago.

Late and rushing, Shinichi bumps into Nagai being harassed by a group of delinquents. Shinichi shields Nagai, and a high school girl named Kimijima Kana appears. Shinichi is treated by Satomi, and the two get along well, but while on their trip, Shinichi's parents... Then he gets a phone call from his father, and Shinichi's harsh story begins.

Shinichi's chest is pierced by his mother, Nobuko, who has turned into a parasite. He survives thanks to Migi's diligent treatment. When Shinichi wakes up, he is stunned to discover that the events were not a dream... Then he receives a call from the hospital and learns that his father, Kazuyuki, has been hospitalized with serious injuries.

Just when Shinichi thought he had found the parasite that killed his mother, he discovered that it was Uda Mamoru, who was in a similar situation to Shinichi. The two talk about their situations. Uda feels sorry for Shinichi's current situation and offers to help him. And finally, to settle things, Shinichi appears on top of a cliff, facing the parasite...!

With the matter with his parents now settled for the time being, Shinichi has returned to his daily life. With Migi's cells scattered throughout his body, Shinichi's physical abilities have increased dramatically, and he is able to easily handle even Mitsuo. However, he is troubled by the possibility that his heart is also changing.

Yuko is drawn to Shimada Hideo, but gradually begins to feel something is off about his face. As Yuko pursues Shimada, she connects him to a case involving her brother, a detective. Meanwhile, Shinichi is at the mercy of Shimada's actions and begins to lose sight of another part of his humanity. Yuko then approaches the core of the matter, which she should not delve into.

Shimada Hideo is a rampaging parasite. Shimada has become a wild beast, and no trace of reason or thought remains. Satomi's class, who was too late to escape, becomes Shimada's prey, and the school is transformed into a horrific murder scene. Shinichi steps over a mountain of blood and corpses and heads down the corridor to rescue Satomi.

Shinichi's presence in Kana grows stronger with each passing day. Shinichi fears Kana's abilities, but is unable to tell her the truth. Satomi is torn between distrust for Shinichi as their normal daily lives return. Meanwhile, a parasite breaks into a gang office. Members are killed in the name of a test of their strength. And a new parasite threatens Shinichi and his friends' daily lives...

Kana's special ability grows stronger day by day. Shinichi thinks that leaving her alone may put her in danger, so he tells Kana everything about the parasite. Shinichi wants to help Kana... Kana thinks he's lying to her and dodging her... Their feelings are at odds.

A few days have passed since the Kana incident, and Shinichi seems as if nothing had happened. Satomi and the others feel something is off about him... However, Shinichi also feels that something is not right in his mind. Meanwhile, there is a man sniffing around Shinichi's surroundings!

His true identity has finally been discovered by Kuramori, a detective employed by Tamura. Shinichi, who is being pushed to the brink mentally, tries to reveal his secret to Satomi, but the distance between them grows without him being able to tell her anything... In order to break out of this situation, Shinichi enlists Uda's help in trying to contact Kuramori.

Although skeptical, Kuramori accepts Shinichi's existence. However, his opinion soon changes when he witnesses a murder committed by a parasite. Shinichi asks Kuramori for help, but Kuramori withdraws from the case out of fear. Frustrated that things aren't going as he expected, Shinichi becomes irritated when another parasite appears before him!

The parasite that appeared before Shinichi was a little different than usual. It introduced itself as Miki, spoke lightly, and approached Shinichi with a rich expression. Shinichi was confused, but while Migi was sleeping, he desperately ran away. Just when he thought Migi had finally woken up, he revealed a shocking truth!

Kusano, who judges Tamura's actions to be dangerous, joins his friends in eliminating Tamura. Meanwhile, Kuramori, whose precious family was killed, kidnaps Tamura's baby in revenge. Tamura confronts Kuramori, who is waiting in the park with the baby in his arms. Kuramori tries to throw the baby off a cliff in revenge, but Tamura...!?

When Shinichi arrives at the designated park for the meeting, he finds Tamura holding a baby. What are we to humans... parasites? What exactly are humans to us? What will Shinichi think when he sees Tamura, who has been asking for answers to his questions, and is faced with an existence that is difficult to accept?

Hirama, who suspects that Shinichi is deeply involved in the series of incidents caused by the parasites, introduces him to Urakami, a prisoner with a special sensitivity. Shinichi is somehow cleared of suspicion and returns to his high school life, but Hirama appears before him again with a solemn look on his face! And finally, the government's operation to wipe out Hirokawa and his group begins!

The police and special forces have finally begun their operation to wipe out the parasites, led by Hirokawa! The special forces, led by Yamagishi, use special sensors to steadily corner the parasites, despite the chaos that has ensued. However, the situation that seemed to be ending in victory for the humans was about to be overturned by the hand of one parasite...

The special forces kill Hirokawa, the leader of the parasites, and just when they thought all that was left was to eliminate the remaining remnants, they are driven into a corner by Goto, the strongest parasite! Shinichi is frightened by the fact that he was the only one they were unable to kill... But at the end, someone gives Shinichi courage!!

Giving Satomi the strength to live, Shinichi decides to fight Goto. In the deserted mountains, he cooperates with Migi and fights Goto to his advantage. However, he is unable to kill him when he is just one step away, and he loses Migi as well, resulting in defeat. Wandering the mountain village in grief, he comes across a house.

An old woman living in a house introduces herself as Mitsuyo and warmly welcomes Shinichi. Mitsuyo harshly scolds Shinichi, who has given up on life. Shinichi leaves Mitsuyo's words behind and heads back into the mountains to settle things with Goto. In the dim light of the mountains, Shinichi is the first to find "Goto" despite having nowhere to go.

With the matter with Goto settled, true peace has come to Shinichi. Although he is depressed by Migi's unilateral breakup, Shinichi studies hard for his entrance exams in order to get his life back to normal. However, once again, an entity that threatens his peace appears before Shinichi and Satomi! The final episode is "Parasyte". The strange story of Shinichi and Migi finally comes to a close!!
