The Kingdom

La spiritualiste Mme Drusse trompe les médecins pour qu’ils l’admettent dans le service de neurochirurgie de l’hôpital du Royaume, où elle entend les pleurs d’un enfant dans la cage d’ascenseur. Le Dr Helmer doit faire face aux résultats de son travail sur un patient souffrant de lésions cérébrales.

Amidst concerns over his methods, Helmer continues to be haunted by claims of medical malpractice. As Mrs. Drusse draws closer to the weeping spirit-child, things become increasingly mysterious when she discovers an old photograph of a little girl with a strange-looking man.

Gathering leads, Drusse visits the control room and finally makes contact with the spirits, but evil forces prevent her from going further. Helmer’s desperate attempts at covering up his medical misdeeds are foiled when fellow doctors Krogshøj, Judith and Mogge beat him to the hospital archives.

The Kingdom is driving Dr. Helmer mad. He comes up with a plan to put a stop to Krogshøj’s blackmail. Dr. Moesgaard’s catastrophic tour of the hospital with the director and Minister of Health culminates in sex, an amateur séance, a liver transplant, and an abortion in the neurosurgical unit.
