In the 2006 Spring Festival, 16-year-old Bu Hanlu went to a night market with his childhood friends, Liu Yixian and Fang Dawu. There, he saw Lin Qianyu struggling to put on gloves with a Slam Dunk design. An accident caused a ring to fly onto Bu Hanlu's hat. The gloves reminded Bu Hanlu of his deceased sister, who had only the right one left.

Lin Qianyu and his friends were caught sneaking into school and punished to clean the rooftop for a week. Tensions rose as Bu Hanlu clashed with second-year students and Xia Miao, the class monitor. When Lin Qianyu and his group were playing checkers on the rooftop, Bu Hanlu threw him to the ground, leading to a rivalry. They agreed to an exchange of gloves the next day.

In high school, a series of pranks unfold—students suffer from diarrhea after eating Fang Dawu's biscuits, and Liu Yang's radio station plays pirated songs. Lin Qianyu, believing Bu Hanlu is behind the chaos, steals his school uniform top and hangs it on a tree, triggering a public confrontation. Bu Hanlu falls while retrieving it, injuring his ankle.

In the dance studio, the girls gossiped behind Meng Huiyuan's back, but Liu Yixian defended her. Meanwhile, Bu Hanlu's application to the Astronomy Club was rejected, and she asked Lin Qianyu for help. As her birthday approached, Bu Hanlu rejected her mother's dinner plans, reminiscing about a promise with her sister.

Seven students, including Bu Hanlu, were caught on the rooftop and punished to write self-criticisms. Bu Hanlu decided to investigate an unknown luminous object from the previous night, and the others followed him on a bus to Tingshan. The bus broke down, and Lin Qianyu hitchhiked a ride with a reporter.

Bu Hanlu, determined to find his missing sister, ventured into the mountains alone. His group split up to search, with each group finding strange phenomena: flowers blooming on stones, and a boiling mountain lake. Lin Qianyu eventually found Bu Hanlu observing the situation from a tree, and together, they marked their path.

Lin Qianyu picked up her family from the train station, and they had dinner together. She suggested her parents attend her parent-teacher meeting, but Lin Qianqian volunteered to go instead. Lin Qianyu gave her sister a pair of gloves. Bu Hanlu and Liu Yixian made plans to go shopping and listen to CDs, while Meng Huiyuan formed her first girl group friendship.

To save the astronomy club, Bu Hanlu and the others tried to trick Lin Qianyu into a barber shop to cut his hair, but his strong resistance thwarted their plan. Later, with Lin Qianqian's help, they snuck into Lin Qianyu's room to cut his hair while he slept. But Lin woke up halfway, and they learned from Lin Qianqian that Lin Qianyu had always cherished the moments when his mother cut his hair.

Bu Hanlu, skilled in lockpicking, joined her friends at the observatory late at night but found it empty. As security closed in, Lin Qianyu was left behind, and her appearance resembled a character from her sister's comics, leading Bu Hanlu to believe Lin Qianyu was the ally she sought. Later, during Lin Qianyu's birthday, Bu Hanlu noticed a strange scar from 2000.

Bu Hanlu was confronted by her friends, who secretly administered a psychological questionnaire to assess her mental state. Despite her suspicions, they denied betraying her, but their actions led Bu Hanlu to feel increasingly isolated. She thought Lin Qianyu was the traitor, and in a final confrontation, Lin denied it, making Bu's distrust grow.

Bu Hanlu starts isolating herself, cutting off contact with others. She meets Lin Qianqian on the road and lends her a school uniform when she sees her looking weak. Afterward, she accidentally bumps into Lin Qianyu, and they fall, leading to an unintended kiss on Bu Hanlu's cheek. Meanwhile, Liu Yang publicly confesses his feelings to Bu Hanlu but fails.

Liu Yang and the others learned that Lin Qianyu stayed with Lin Qianqian at the provincial hospital due to her worsening condition. Bu Hanlu, recognizing the Red Lotus badge, believed Lin Qianyu to be the ally he sought and called to comfort her. Liu Yixian and the team began investigating Jing Mu, suspecting him to be connected to the astronomical telescope's whereabouts.

The investigation into the missing astronomical telescope grows more complicated, with suspicions falling on the dean and principal. Bu Hanlu recalls meeting reporters "Green Onion" and "Scrambled Egg" and decides to enlist their help. However, when their business cards disappear, Bu Hanlu becomes suspicious of Xianxian's odd behavior.

Summer vacation arrives, and Meng Huiyuan, Xianxian, Wuwu, Liu Yang, and Chen Xiang travel to the provincial capital, thinking Bu Hanlu would not come due to lingering tension with Lin Qianyu. However, Bu Hanlu joins them, secretly holding the Red Lotus Badge, determined to confront Lin Qianyu about their alliance.

Cheng Xiaofeng announced a new transfer student to their class—Lin Qianyu, the infamous "school bully" who had been demoted. Bu Hanlu, used to sitting alone, was stunned when Lin Qianyu became her deskmate. The transfer also brought news of the National Middle School Student Astronomy Competition, where the grand prize was an astronomical telescope.

The "early love" incident had the school on edge, with Bu Hanlu and seven others caught in a web of lies and awkwardness. Though Lin Qianyu's confession was dismissed as a prank, Bu Hanlu couldn't shake her irritation. Lin Qianyu, confused, couldn't understand why she was upset. Meanwhile, their friends realized that Bu Hanlu wasn't angry about the prank, but the fact that it was all just a joke.

Before Lin Qianyu and Bu Hanlu could exchange gifts, they learned the freezer was sold as scrap by the noodle shop owner. They chased after the truck, finding the freezer and the airplane model Bu Hanlu cherished. Lin Qianyu also found the guitar she'd been longing for. As the truck sped along, Bu Hanlu understood Lin Qianyu's feelings, but knew they couldn't be together.

Lin Qianyu explained to Bu Hanlu that his relationship with Feng Keke was just temporary. Bu Hanlu, though nervous, acted the part of a captain and asked him to keep his distance from Keke. However, Keke, moved by Lin Qianyu's actions, boldly asked if he liked someone. Lin Qianyu admitted his feelings for Bu Hanlu, but Keke suggested that Bu Hanlu might not feel the same.

Bu Hanlu led the group to her room, determined to reveal all her secrets. In the room, everyone saw the comics left by Bu Hanyu, and they realized how Bu Hanlu had become so captivated by the story. Lin Qianyu explained the situation and persuaded everyone to work together. Bu Hanlu helped them create a study plan, inspiring them to take their studies seriously.

Bu Hanlu rushed home and grabbed the comics from Bu Tian, who was puzzled by their strange content. Unable to hide them anymore, Bu Hanlu called Lin Qianyu to take them. Lin Qianyu met Duan Chi, who was about to take the pilot test, and wished him luck. Bu Hanlu tried the swivel chair test but failed, realizing her body wasn't suited for flying.

Bu Hanlu locked herself in the observatory, refusing to come out despite the pleas of her friends. Lin Qianyu, desperate, asked Lin Qianqian to use the paging station to prove that the messages had always been from her. But Lin Qianqian, torn between loyalty and guilt, refused to betray Bu Hanlu. Meanwhile, Bu Tian and Tian Xiuxiu found Lin Qianqian and demanded answers.

In 2008, as the Beijing Olympics approached, the devastating Wenchuan earthquake struck, and Jing Mu rushed to the disaster zone to assist with his radio technology, sparking Lin Qianyu's deep interest in him. Meanwhile, Meng Huiyuan began to realize the truth about her mother and Jing Mu.

Bu Hanlu, Lin Qianyu, Xianxian, and Wuwu are in their third year of high school. Their teacher, Cheng Xiaofeng, gave them a mock volunteer form to fill out. Bu Hanlu and Lin Qianyu decide to fill out each other's forms. Unexpectedly, Bu Hanlu chooses radio physics for Lin Qianyu, while Lin Qianyu picks aircraft manufacturing engineering for Bu Hanlu.

Bu Hanlu and Lin Qianyu supported each other through personal struggles, helping their families resolve tensions. The next day, they took important steps—Bu Hanlu rushed to the Civil Affairs Bureau, and Lin Qianyu went to the station—calling their parents and mending relationships. As the college entrance exam neared, Lin Qianyu worked tirelessly to improve her grades with Bu Hanlu's guidance.
