"Yato" is a homeless god who takes on people's requests for a five-yen donation as a delivery god. His partner Tomone tells him, "I can't stand you," and eventually, even his sacred weapon leaves him. One day, while searching for a lost cat, Yato is almost hit by a truck but is saved by a girl named Hiyori Iki.

Hiyori, who has become a "half-phantom", seeks help from Yato to cure her unusual condition. However, Yato tells her that it's impossible without finding a "Shinki". Hiyori starts searching for a Shinki on her own but inadvertently brings along a phantom. Unable to fight without a Shinki, Yato runs through the residential area, where he catches sight of a snow-like apparition of the dead...

Yukine became Yato's new shinki. However, his dissatisfaction with the poor treatment is growing. The destination they head to upon receiving a long-awaited request was, surprisingly, the shrine of the god of learning, "Tenjin-sama." It turns out the request was for help because it was the busy exam season.

Hiyori asks Yato, who has no work, to work for Yukine's sake. Yato suddenly says, There's someone I want you to meet, and takes her to the house of Kofuku. The true identity of Kofuku is "Ebisu Kofuku", and there was also a Shinki named "Daikoku". Just then, Yato receives his first job request in a while. Teleporting to the rooftop of the building, but mistakenly pushing the client off!?

Yukine began to show his abilities as a Shinki. Hiyori decided to take Yukine into her home, saying Yato wasn't suitable as his guardian. The conflict between Yato and Bishamon paused due to Kofuku's air hole. Yukine left Hiyori's home seeking Tenjin's help but was rejected with "I can't employ you as you are now." Having no place to go, Yukine gradually gave in to mischief, turning into "Yasumi" and harming Yato. While standing alone in the park, the girl whom Yato called "Nora" appeared in front of Yukine.

The new client for Yato and Yukine is Manabu Hagiwara, a student at Hiyori's middle school. He is suffering from bullying by his classmates, but he is unable to take action on his own and just complains. What does Yukine think about Manabu, who is in such a situation, and the middle school, a place where he would have attended every day if he were alive...?

Due to Yukine's accumulation of misdeeds, Yato was afflicted by Yasumi and fell into a dangerous state. To save Yato, the sacred treasure Yukine must undergo a "Misogi" ritual to atone for his sins. However, three sacred treasures are required for this process...

As the New Year holidays approached, Hiyori went out for her first shrine visit and unexpectedly encountered Nora. With a sinister smile, Nora used a masked phantom to suddenly attack Hiyori…
