Kate Henderson, Head of the Russia desk at M16, uncovers a plot that goes right to the heart of the political establishment. The British Prime Minister is about to resign and the Russian's have an asset in Cabinet poised to take his place. Kate must navigate a minefield of false intelligence to find the asset before they become Prime Minister.

Kate suspects her agent is in danger and, defying orders, prepares to return to Malta to rescue her. She knows this could be a trap, but it's a risk she is prepared to take. As the Prime Ministerial candidates start to campaign, Kate investigates the front runners; Foreign Secretary, Ryan Walker and Home Secretary, Imogen Conrad. She soon finds they both have murky Russian connections.

Kate's bold rescue mission in Malta dangerously backfires and she draws flak from all sides. Kate now knows there is a mole deep within her own team in MI6 as well as an asset poised to enter Downing Street. Rav and Kate continue to dig and find compromising material on their own boss.

Rav stays on the Ryan Walker money trail, going to Geneva to meet his shady lawyer. Rav sets up a sting. Posing as a businessman, he secretly downloads all the documents from the lawyer's computer. In London. Kate's personal life implodes when her daughter, Fiona, calls in a panic to say she's being followed.

Kate shows the Prime Minister evidence that Ryan has taken Russian money, demanding he suspend Ryan from the leadership race. But the Prime Minister refuses; this is evidence of Ryan's greed but not of espionage. As Imogen's campaign falls into disarray following the leaking of the sex tape, Kate knows she is running out of time to find the mole.
