The Count Of Monte Cristo

In the midst of a ferocious storm at sea, the captain dies and first mate Edmond Dantes takes over command, steering the ship safely home to Marseille where his beloved Mercedes awaits. After returning Edmond is falsely imprisoned for treason in the island fortress Château d'If near Marseille without trial.

Edmond is left to rot in his cell until he meets Abbe Faria, an imprisoned priest who reveals to him the location of a legendary treasure hidden on the island of Monte Cristo.

Edmond, in disguise, arrives in Marseille only to learn his father is dead and Mercedes has married and moved to Paris. He meets Jacopo, an Italian smuggler on the run from the police.

Five years have passed since Edmond became the Count of Monte Cristo and his plans for revenge have fermented. He meets his old enemies - Fernand, Danglars and Villefort.

Edmond discovers Danglars' success is due to illicit access to government information and puts him in financial jeopardy. Mercedes and Fernand host a ball at their mansion.

Edmond introduces Vampa, now posing as the wealthy Count of Spada, into society. Spada announces he has come to Paris to look for a wife.

Edmond locates Gaston, Villefort's illegitimate child, who has grown up to be a thief. Danglars discovers Fernand's treacherous deeds in Algeria and reveals all to the press.

Edmond reveals to Villefort that Heloise stole the vial of poison from him - the same poison used to murder the Marquise. Villefort confronts Heloise, threatening to expose her.
