A prominent local politician reports her prosecutor husband missing, setting Cardinal and Delorme off on the hunt. Delorme tells her partner she’ll be disappearing, too.

Two deaths lead the detectives to believe they may be looking for a professional killer. Meanwhile, a new target is already in the man’s sights.

Cardinal and Delorme try to connect the latest victim with the first, who was killed in a similar way. Two relatives of the deceased meet in secret to do the same.

The police manage to identify a suspect, who revises his plans for more murder. He takes steps to get out of town but not before encountering risks of his own.

Cardinal and Delorme finally get to the bottom of the case-by unearthing the secret linking four apparent strangers. The race is on to save yet more victims.

The detectives make an arrest and learn what really happened in the woods 20 years ago, including the cover-up that followed. Even so, all might yet come down to a hunch.
